2-component adhesive: Bond materials firmly and environmentally resistant
Whether you call it reactive adhesive, structural adhesive, construction adhesive or, as we call it, 2-component adhesive - the most important thing is: it bonds a large number of materials water, shock and impact proof. Its somewhat unusual use - mixing the two components before application - becomes easy with the matching double syringe. In our online shop you will find the right adhesive for your project as well as the associated syringe at the usual low price.
2-component adhesive made from binder and hardener
The two components of a 2-component adhesive are known as binders and hardeners. The latter is synthetic resin, often epoxy resin. Individually, the components show no reaction even to environmental influences. It is only when they are mixed that the adhesiveness arises. That is why they are stored separately until they are used. Mixing them together creates a very strong adhesive that cannot be chemically dissolved. It can only be removed mechanically.
2-component adhesive is temperature-resistant and resistant to acids, UV light and fuels and can be stored almost indefinitely. It is suitable for bonding a wide variety of materials and is used, among other things, for connections in the following areas and industries:
• Machine and vehicle construction
• Electrical manufacturing
• Medical technology
Mixing 2-component adhesive
Before applying, you need to mix the two components of the adhesive in a certain ratio, as already mentioned. This results from the recipe of the respective product, which you can read in the manufacturer's information. Usually - as with the adhesives in our range - the mixing ratio is 1:1, which is why 2-component adhesives are sold with matching syringes, also known as double-chamber cartridges. Both components are initially in separate chambers. If you want to use the adhesive, simply mix the contents by squeezing the syringe and make them workable. If 2-component adhesive is supplied without this aid, you can also mix the two components manually. To do this, mix them with a stick for about a minute.
Apply 2-component adhesive
After mixing the components, it is important to hurry: 2-component adhesive hardens quickly, so the pot life, i.e. the time in which the adhesive can be processed, is relatively short. It varies from product to product, but is around five minutes, as is the case with the 2-component epoxy adhesive in our shop.
After mixing, you can apply the adhesive immediately and join the surfaces to be glued together. The surfaces must be free of dust and grease. They must be fixed until they have hardened. The drying time of 2-component adhesive is reached after about 10 minutes.
It takes about 24 hours for the adhesive to harden completely. But before that, about 45 minutes after application, you can process it further. Because of its clarity and colorlessness, you can paint it over. It doesn't even break when drilling.
Areas of application of 2-component adhesive
You can use 2-component adhesives on many different materials, including:
• Plastic
• Metal
• Concrete
• Wood
• Stone
• Synthetic substance
• Ceramics
• Glass
This is why 2-component assembly adhesive is used in many areas of industry, for example in lightweight metal construction or in the automotive industry. Craftsmen, for example tilers, also use 2-component adhesives made from epoxy resin.
But you don't have to be a professional to use the adhesive. It is also suitable for repairs that you have carried out yourself and for filling cracks or for leveling out unevenness. Since you can use it in a wide variety of situations, it certainly doesn't hurt to stock up on 2-component adhesives.
