Magnets to sew in - no problem with our instructions

Magnets are versatile. It's easy to forget where these can be found.
Often, they cannot be seen at all, for example in clothing or handbags. Designers and tailors like to use the magnetic effect to create an alternative to buttons or zippers. However, the appearance of the clothing and accessories should not be influenced by overly conspicuous magnets. Instead, appropriately sized models are unobtrusively sewn into the fabric. In contrast to snaps or zippers, a gentle magnetic closing process is then possible.

Instructions for sewing in magnets: Closures for handbags and wallets

Most often, magnets are used for sewing in the form of fasteners for handbags. These offer the advantage that you can easily close your bags with them by fixing the upper hem with a magnet. The magnetism provides the necessary energy to keep the bag securely closed.

Do you like to sew yourself? Then you can, for example, equip your specially sewn cases or wallets with the appropriate closure system. There are no limits to your creativity when sewing with magnets.

How to sew-on magnets: Your clothes close gently using magnets to sew on to fabric

Like handbags, you can just as well provide your clothes with magnetic buttons to sew on. Whether you attach them to your clothing visibly or invisibly is entirely up to you. You can often find rain capes in stores that you can easily close yourself. Magnets are also used here.

In the fashion sector, numerous designers use the magnetic effect to create particularly unusual pieces of clothing. For example, this creates spectacular fold patterns that become a smooth surface with a little tug. For this purpose, several magnets are distributed over the garment. Magnet pairs are always about 10 cm apart. These can be folded over into a fold as desired.

Should you ever need to do minor repairs to your clothing, you can easily replace damaged buttons and zippers with magnetic fasteners that can be sewn on, for example.

Magnets are also used for sewing work clothing. For example, it is possible to permanently attach name tags to smocks or jackets. You can then remove the sign for washing and simply put it back on once it has dried.

Sew-in magnets are covered with a PVC cover and can even withstand temperatures of up to 80 °C. They are also waterproof and therefore also rustproof.

The instructions for sewing magnets: Tips for washing

  • Textiles with magnets should be washed in a laundry bag, since most washing machines are magnetic themselves.

  • Do not use the spin cycle.

  • Wash the textiles in question on a gentle program.

  • You should not wash the magnets at a temperature above 80 °C, otherwise they could lose their effectiveness.

The instructions for magnets to sew in: Fix things that you want to take off again at some point

You can also use our instructions for sewing magnets in the household. For example, your shower curtain can be attached to the shower cubicle in such a way that it does not constantly stick to your skin while you shower. Simply sew magnets into the bottom of the shower curtain and it will stick to the tub.

In summer it can happen that the sun shines strongly from the sky, and you want a sun-protected place. You can, for example, darken your terrace with films or tarpaulins. With the help of magnetic fasteners for sewing, you can easily fix the foil to adjacent magnetic surfaces such as iron or nickel. When the sun has gone down and you want to look at the stars, simply remove them again. With powerful neodymium magnets, foil stays securely attached even in strong winds.
