What exactly is blackboard paint anyway?

Blackboard paint offers you the opportunity to use your walls in a very special way. By applying the product to a base, it turns it into a surface that you can write or paint on and decorate to your heart's content.

The times when you had to remind yourself of important tasks with sticky notes are finally over if you use our practical blackboard paint. Since blackboard paint for the wall is made from rubber paint and is insoluble in water, you can always write on the surface with chalk and then wipe it off with a damp cloth.
Once dry, the board is ready for use again.

What can I use blackboard paint for?

When you buy blackboard paint, you can rest assured that you can put it to good use in just about any room.

Blackboard paint in the children's room

There is probably hardly a child in this world who is not happy when they can let off steam artistically on a wall and paint it as much as they can. A writable board surface is also ideal as an alternative to the pin board above the desk in the children's room or the parent's workplace at home.
Simply apply black blackboard paint - this is ideal for embellishments.

Tip: If you want to create a magnetic surface, you can also use magnetic paint or magnetic blackboard paint!

Blackboard varnish and paint in the living room and kitchen

You can also use blackboard wall paint to paint other areas of your home - such as the living room or hallway. If you provide it to a certain section of the wall, you can, for example, hang up notes on which you can write down various things like:

• quotations
• notes
• ideas

A blackboard in the kitchen acts as an ideal shopping list.

Blackboard paint for furniture

You can also beautify a worn piece of furniture and a wide variety of furnishings with blackboard paint, for example:

• drawers
• table surfaces
• flowerpots

Because blackboard varnish and blackboard paint adhere to many different surfaces and provide excellent coverage, you can work on a wide variety of objects - there are practically no limits to your imagination.

What is the difference between blackboard paint and blackboard varnish?

The terms blackboard paint and blackboard varnish are often used interchangeably. However, there are differences:

Blackboard paint:

• possesses a matte finish
• it is particularly suitable for beautifying walls and furniture
• the dense pigmentation causes a very high color intensity on walls

Blackboard varnish:

• characterized by a glossy surface
• can be applied to plastic, metal, wood, glass and stone surfaces
• can be written on in the same way as normal blackboard paint

Attention: be sure to purchase water-based blackboard paint that is free of harmful substances such as lead or VOCs (volatile organic compounds). In our shop you only get products that comply with the current RoHS guidelines and deliberately do without dangerous substances.

How do you apply blackboard paint and blackboard varnish to a wall?

Applying blackboard paint and varnish is usually very uncomplicated. When painted, the substances behave just like any other paint. It is important that you stir the product sufficiently before applying it to the wall.
You should also sufficiently cover and tape floors or other objects nearby so that they do not get dirty.

The ideal basis for blackboard paint is smooth and slightly absorbent surfaces, among others:

• wood
• cardboard
• concrete

Blackboard varnish is significantly more flexible. This also works well on glass surfaces, for example. Ideally, you should apply the paint to larger areas with a paint roller. To achieve the most even result possible, it is best to use a foam roller.
A brush is ideal for smaller areas. Also make sure that the surface is free of dust and wallpaper residue and dry before painting. This is the only way for the paint to adhere optimally.
If you want to paint over blackboard paint and varnish, you can use conventional wall paint. Depending on the shade, two sets may be necessary.

Rough surfaces, such as plaster, should be sanded down beforehand. The situation is similar with substrates made of woodchip wallpaper. Although you could theoretically paint them over with blackboard paint or varnish, the bumps would still show through afterwards. We therefore recommend that you remove the wallpaper beforehand or cover the wall in question with chipboard or plasterboard. If a surface is particularly absorbent, it may also be advisable to apply a deep primer beforehand.

How long does blackboard paint and varnish take to dry?

Since varnish and blackboard paint are generally weatherproof and insoluble in water, you should always put on protective clothing before applying. This avoids unsightly splashes of paint on your clothing, which are very difficult to remove later.
As a rule, it is sufficient to paint a surface once with blackboard paint. In this case, half a liter of paint is sufficient for an area of approximately 5 m². After the paint has dried for 48 hours, you can go ahead and inaugurate your new board with any color you like!
